Hollowroot Trail: slow down and read the forest
Hollowroot Trail is the rare mobile game that rewards patience. I tried to speedrun it first and found it dull. On a second, slower playthrough, it became one of my favorite things I played all year.
Nearly every puzzle solution is hidden in the environment. A carved symbol on a tree, a shift in the ambient sound, a path you walked past without noticing. The game never flashes a hint at you, which makes each discovery feel like yours.
My only real tip is to turn your brightness up and your volume on. Several clues are audio or lighting based, and I missed them entirely the first time with the sound off on a bus.
It runs about four hours and has no filler. Treat it like a short story rather than a grind, and it delivers a mood that stuck with me for days.
